Ok guys. I'm not gonna be able to get this jump started from generally scratch. I'm REALLY sorry, but between saying I could and now I had the person doing it with me drop, lost my job, gained an (unpaid) tattoo apprenticeship (Which I adore, but works out to working a part time job with none of the money)

This isn't Rosie's fault, she is super amazing and SUPER reliable, and did not in any way flake on me (Quite the opposite)

If you want me to compile a mailing list and, if I ever get the time to restart this one, or start another, let you all know, please let me know and I will do as such here. I like what we have set up, and you can generally assume anything I create in the future will be similar. The same rule about your character carrying over would apply. You can also friend me at penguinfaery and it'll show up there if I ever do.

I can recommend absolute_hold as a great multifandom, about the same size as VDL in it prime, well run and with a similar feeling plot as we were going to have (A bit darker), and I know Brian has really been enjoying paradisa which is bigger scale.

I'm also slowly working on opening string_theories which will be a very loose, small community, which any of you all are invited to.

Again, I'm super sorry, and if anyone wants to take over, I'm more then happy to hand over the reigns.

Hi, everybody! Rosie here with the lists! Before I lj-cut to them, though, couple things you should know:

- These are going to be updated every week, on the same day. Which means Tuesdays. I work on these lists in the mornings before school and on weekends when necessary. If there's a correction, I'll edit the actual post. If there's new stuff, though, you get to wait until next Tuesday. :D

- Yes, there is a lot of information missing. I resolved to just use what was actually given, not implied, in the event that I might be wrong. I figured no harm done; I can just edit when you all send things in. This way I cover up the "Well I posted the comment in this journal, so it's my...".

- I'm not a mindreader. You gotta tell me to change something. And even if I was a mindreader, I might make you do it anyways. :D

- I'm actually HTML deficient (It took me two days to get all the lj user guys correct. I don't know why. I actually know that one), and if anyone can tell me how to get the bigger text boxes for the friends add, you'd be pretty much amazing. :D

What the hell is going on?

Your character has been snatched away by a rogue fae court as a form on entertainment. Don't mistake these faeries for some harmless Tinkerbells. Although not quite as wicked as the Unseelie court, it is obvious why these fae were rejected from the Seelie courts. They have created Ville de Lumiere as their personal playground and the hijacked citizens as their pawns.

What kind of character can come to VDL?

Any canon character who would interest the faeries for whatever reason.

However, due to the fact that the faeries don't need more then one character, the only reason for multiples is if the person can PROVE with sound reasoning that there is a marked difference between the two versions. If you think you can make a case for a specific canon duplicate (I.e. there are two alternate versions of canon), talk to a mod, and then use the "What are they bringing to this rp" section to explain it in your app.

Multiples!Characters that have the same basic personality will be prohibited.

What do you mean in the app when you say "Why do the interest the fae"?

Every character should have some quirk that can catch the fae's attention. It can be big and obvious (The control fire, they are batshit insane, they are in fact made of cheese), or small and less known (They have a ritual to tying their shoes, they can't resist tomatoes, they still avoid stepping on cracks)

Be creative! It can be canon, or your own take on them (However, it should be IC). Even the most boring person in the world had something interesting about them. I mean come on, how many people are the most boring person in the world?

What happens when my character gets to VDL?

They will find a beautiful, slim hardcover book next to them. Inside is written basic information about the city, including a map and instruction for how to find a place to live. Unless otherwise stated in an event, lodging and food is provided. You can go here for what's in the front pages of your character books.

If they turn a few pages they'll find that notes appear in other hand writings with names next to them. Notes they can reply to. And that they have a way to write their own notes, to whomever they want. However, nothing is private from the leader of this game.

What are these random posts from thewatchingones?
- Random events in the city will be optional for all players involved. When the event post comes up it will have some innocent seeming trigger and if it interests you, please feel free to leave an IC COMMENT to the post. A few days later, the consequences of those actions will be posted.

- For Fae Events, the little critters can do anything they wish with you. From making you into their personal puppet for their amusement or whisking you back home. Truth be told however, anything can happen. Events will range from silly to serious, so be prepared. We don't expect you to throw your pup into every event that comes along, but please get in on one every now and then. Or else, what's the point of being here?

FAE EVENTS ARE THE ONLY THING THAT ALLOWS GOD MODDING. Unless your character has specific anti-fae magic, i.e. Hellboy, the fae have control over thing IC. OOC these things can be discussed.

What happens if my character dies?

They die. That is generally a bad thing.

However, in some circumstances, they might pop back up.

But there are no freebies here, and they probably won't like the price. If you're planning a character death, talk to a mod about it, and we can discuss how the character will come back to life, and what price they'll pay for it.

What communities are there?

villdelumiere For IC posts that are not proper for private journals, nor are rps. IC announcements, for example.
vdl_logs For both AIM and thread based rps.
vdl_ooc For all OOC posts.
thewatchingones For event posts. Only mods can post here.

What is the logging format?
Log format:

The Fourth Wall? What is it?
The fourth wall is also a part of godmodding to an extent. It's where a character will use items are information from OUR culture in their own. (eg. posting of pictures or videos) The only exceptions to this are if parts of the fourth wall are part of your fandoms culture. (eg. Jump Comics/Bleach in Gintama, Morning Musume in Loveless)

Pup? Mun? WTF are you talking about?
This post can help clue you into all the rp lingo, such as Pup(pet), Mun(dane), and anything else that might pop up. Please note, this is a dictionary for ALL forms of RPING, including MMORPG and Table Top, so some term may not apply.

What do I do if I have to leave for awhile?

Please post your character, an approximate date you'll be back, and your reason here. If a hiatus is over two weeks, we will want to know why. We're not trying to get any juicy gossip about you, we just want to make sure you're not just not posting cause you don't feel like it.

Why aren't your applications open?

Applications are open every other month. This give the new characters time to settle in, and the mods to focus on things besides accepting apps. However, you can apply at any time if you are applying for a character on the wanted list, OR you are a current member.

If you are in the rp, you may request up to 3 characters per fandom, per character on the wanted list. (I.e. if you play two Naruto character you could request 6 character from Naruto)

Keep it under control. If this rp is getting to smut oriented, we will take steps to prevent it. That being said, all smut logs must be friends locked. There is absolutely no other way around this. This measure must be taken or we stand a good chance of being shut down by Livejournal. Remember the strikethrough kids.

HOWEVER, ANY smut knowingly posted with a minor will be deleted on sight, and could result in the banning of both players. There will be no exceptions to this rule.

I'm being harassed/X is OOC/what the hell is going on with this rule?

These, or any other problems or complaint can be directed to < href="http://mods-of-vdl.livejournal.com/1662.html">this post</a>, or by contacting a mod. You can post anonymously or logged in, however, please be aware if you are anon, we can not get back to you with how the situation is going. All comments will be screened at that post, and will stay that was unless the commentor asks for it to be unscreened.

Who are the mods and what do they do?

Terra is the mod in charge of public relations and plots. She can be reached at penguinfaery(at)yahoo(dot)com, or on IM at Foxy Malfoy, as well as at any of her IC or OOC journals. Any player problems should be taken to her.

Rosies is the mod in charge of advertising and lists. She can be reached at roxalai. Any ideas for where to advertise should be taken to her.

Both mods will be working on apps.

What about activity checks?

An activity check will be posted in the last week of each month. You must post for each of your characters with a link to some place they are being active, whether in journals or logs. Please note that a three line post the week of the check won't cut it, you're here to play not claim you play. Anyone not on hiatus, with a hiatus not left on the hiatus post, who has not posted in the activity check by the following month will be cut.

What count as activity? Active threads, good solid journal entries, or any solid amount of commenting. We may ask for more links if the commenting amount is in question, 1 or 3 one comment doesn't count as activity. AIM logs do count, however will only take your word on it that it's "being worked on" for two months in a row.

All these forms of activity count, however you should try not to limit yourself to only one. If we see that your activity is, for example, journals months after month, with no logs, we will say something.

What's the city like?

Lumiere is built around a large park, part of which have gone wild. Think Central Park with a smaller population and less civilization. Some parts of the park are highly cultivated with playgrounds, fountains and sports courts. Other have gone completely wild. Deep in one of these wild areas is the fae court, but good luck finding it. The park is full of lights at night, almost like Christmas lights till one breaks off and wanders away. Whenever anyone gets close enough to see what they are, they go out, and nothing out of the ordinary can be found.

Directly north of the park, right outside the main entrance is a large main boulevard, lined with restaurant and small shops. The trees and building here are also adorned with small light, although these are much more mundane in nature, obviously electrical. More business areas can be found on the blocks east and west of this main boulevard, dissolving into houses after a few blocks.

This boulevard ends at the docks, which much more resembles the pier at Santa Monica then any working docks, complete with a small carnival. It becomes more bleak as you head either East or West along the bay, before it is abruptly swallowed by over grown wilderness.

The rest of Lumiere, for now, is full of small, Victorian houses. These two are suddenly swallowed by the wilds of the forest, some houses on the edge half swallowed by it.

Anyway who tries to head out by either the forest or the ocean will travel until they can no longer see the city. Soon after they will see some lights...only to be returned back to Ville de Lumiere.

It's not THAT easy to get out.

How DO I get out?!

If your character NEEDS to get out for some reason (you're going on Hiatus, they need something from home, etc) contact a mod. The fae do have a way to get them home.

Much like coming back to life, however, it isn't free.
